About West Christian Church

West Christian is a new non-denominational church in the Chicago northwest suburban area that meets in Schaumburg.

At West Christian, we believe the church needs to move beyond the milk of simple truths and flashy entertainment to uncover the deep meat of the Word which has the power to transform each person’s life. We focus on knowing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and learning to follow Him and live according to His ways, in humility and holiness in submission to God.

Our staff is unpaid. Those who teach or lead worship do so voluntarily. As Paul the apostle supported himself so as not to malign the gospel message, we also believe it is good for each minister to work outside the church to provide his/her own support.

We would love for you to come visit West Christian! Stop by next Sunday and meet our new congregation as we endeavor, with God’s help, to build a local Christian community.

Why We are Called “West Christian Church”

God had banished Adam and Eve from the Garden, because of their disobedience, and cast them out towards the east to prohibit them eating from the tree of life. Cain, because of his sin, was sent even further to the east to the land of Nod away from God’s presence. With the building of the Tabernacle at Mount Sinai, God provided a way for man to once again come into His presence in the Holy of Holies. The entrance of the Tabernacle was on the east, which meant the high priest had to be walking west to enter into God’s presence in the Holy of Holies. Our church is called West Christian because of our desire to be in God’s presence.

Today, we know that we do not approach God by approaching Him from any particular direction. But there is a proper way to approach God so that He will receive us with open arms—through humility and repentance. In Psalm 51:17 it is written, “a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” These were the words of King David after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba. He cried out to the Lord, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51:1-2). And the Lord responded to David through Nathan the prophet, “”The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die” (2 Sa 12:13).

Here at West Christian our desire is to approach God with a contrite and repentant heart, knowing that He will help us leave behind our broken past to find healing and hope and life through the grace that is offered to every person through Jesus Christ.
